The Flores Family: Alumni, present, & Future
A family full of scholars! It all started when the oldest sibling, Phillip Flores applied and was awarded a PHEF COSI scholarship back in 2018. He attended Colorado State University-Pueblo to double major in Spanish & Mechatronics with a minor in Leadership. Phillip received a renewable scholarship during the four years at the university until 2023 when he graduated with a masters in Mechatronics. Today Philip works for Mr. P and Pringles in the Kellanova Supply Chain rotational three-year program. He is finishing year one in quality and food safety and moving on to the second rotation, as a continuous improvement engineer in manufacturing at the plant in Jackson, Tennessee.
David is the second oldest sibling to receive the PHEF COSI scholarship in 2019. He attended Colorado-State University-Pueblo and graduated with a bachelor’s in Fine Arts in 2023. He was a three-year PHEF scholar. David gained work experience with Sangre de Cristo Art Center, volunteering as a COSI scholar, an opportunity that allowed David to gain hands-on skills that have led him to pursue a career in the field of design space. David is exploring the option to attain a master’s degree to build his experience and education.
Cristopher (Cris) is a freshman at Colorado State University-Pueblo studying industrial engineering - a future engineer in the making. He is embracing college life and with commitment to his studies, he will be a PHEF COSI scholar for the next three years. We look forward to seeing Cris grow as a Thunderwolf.
Last, but certainly not least. Diana is a junior at South High School, where she is involved in everything from sports to clubs and activities, community involvement, and academic success. There is no doubt that she will follow in the footsteps of her brothers and apply for PHEF scholarships in her senior year.
Working with the Flores siblings has been a great experience for the staff at PHEF. They all deliver a positive outlook on their education and career goals which makes supporting them through scholarship a true investment. Phillip and David are great alumni and update us on their lives, we check in with Cris through programs and workshops and will soon include Diana in the mix. The best part will be to continue growing with them and celebrate their successes.
